  1. By removing non-native plants from the area, and by planting/replacing them with natives.

  2. throw out seeds, only the strong survive. Don`t water, that would not be natural

  3. check out Sable Island off Nova Scotia Canada and the work that is being done to restore the natural beach grasses to help in prevent wind erosion of the beach sand

  4. The Nature Conservancy's website has some excellent articles on the steps needed to be taken in native plant restoration programs.

Not surprisingly, invasive plants are the biggest threat (along with invasive animals / insects) to native plant life.  This makes the first step eliminating the invasive plant so the natives have a better chance of gaining a foothold once again.

Arid regions are one of the more challenging areas to bring back native species to because of slow growth.  It is doable though and good luck!  Hope your efforts turn out well.

  5. There are native plant nurseries that specialize in providing stock for replanting. Before this is done, however, it is necessary to remove the invasive plants and to protect the land from erosion until the natives can take over.
