  1. Central Paris is generally very safe and you need have no concerns about staying anywhere.

I prefer to stay in the 5th or 6th arrondissements on the Left Bank. the area is very lively and filled with shops, restaurants and pleasant places to have a drink.

This website will provide you some choices for a hostel in Paris: http://www.cheaphostel.com/

  2. Hostel I don't know. But the Mercure hotels are great, in nice areas, as long as you don't try to pack 4 people in to a double room. OK..I say "nice area", not so much "nice", but bright lights, excitng and safe, as far as I could see. And the sacre coeur not so very far away. Never choose an airport hotel.

  3. Hello, I'll suggest you hotel Ascot Opera -rue Monsigny no.2. It's a small one, but in a very safe area and, at the same time, very close to the center of the city, so you can see the main beauties of Paris just by walking. At the street's corner you have the metro station "4 Septembre" and you can use it till 10h p.m. without problem. Enjoy your trip and kiss Paris for me.

  4. Like your London question I'd apply the  same common sense, except Paris is a lot more unfriendly late at night, except in public places.

Stay close to the place you will frequent the most - so chosing this is your first step, then check out some of the hostels and team up with some good folks for those late night walks home from places - it's a better idea:

    Hope this helps
