Which area is safer: New Cross or Forest Hill?

In which area os Southeast London should I look to rent a room with an easy access to Goldsmiths College?

Either really.  Just be smart and don't walk around alone at dark, but that goes for a lot of places in London.

new cross is safer in my opinion

Forest Hill is safer but New Cross is much more practical for Goldsmiths.  New Cross does have decent areas, down in Telegraph Hill is pretty nice and certain other roads too.

To be honest there are always plenty of weirdos on New Cross Road hanging around which made me feel slightly uncomfortable but i never had any problems even walking around on my own with my ipod on or using my mobile.
