Question:

Which areas are being regenerated in Dublin?

I'm writing an essay on urban regeneration on Dublin, and one example of totally regenerating a residential area I've found is Ballymun, North Dublin.

I'm suggesting that regenerating an area like this, providing new home and services is an under used way of bringing a city 'back to life'.

Other than Ballymun (and the Docklands obviously), which housing areas are being refreshed?

  1. You could also look at the regeneration of Fatima mansions in Dublin, there are a number of papers on it and also has been a couple of documentaries. Also in general in Dublin there have been numerous projects to renew areas where tenement buildings have been demolished. Sean Mcdermott Street, New Street, Bride Street , Bishop Street.

Some of these areas have been renewed without the need for extra infrastructure due to the proximity to city centre.

Also in another way Temple bar is a good example, as up to 15 yrs ago it was basically all a derilict area with no servies or life now it has apartments, hotels, galleries and the infamous bars. But as a regeneration project its a good example of what could be achieved to breath life back into a city. There are also plans for greater regeneration in Cork City Centre and also Limerick.
