Me, my husband and our 2 small children are wanting to move back to Liverpool but are not sure of which areas to look at,

we grew up in Liverpool in the Netherton/Aintree area but everywhere has changed since we moved away years ago.

Can anyone suggest any nice areas with a primary school near by, we havn't a clue what the areas are like anymore with being away for such a long time.

  1. I lived in Maghull until I was 20 and its still the same as it used to be. If I could afford it I've move back there in a flash. You should have a look at kirkby, There are some lovely new build estates right by schools and with the development thats going to be in the next few years, the plans look amazing. Aintree is still the same as it used to be, just no Paradox club anymore haha......

  2. Your most accurate answer was Ivan R

    Aindree is still OK

I would not be fooled by district names. Some places in Aigburth are "Posh Dingle" but around the Vale is good.

Chldwall by the Fiveways from St Davids Church is good and if you can afford it Calderstones Park. I like Wavertree  Garden Suburb  Smithdown Roaad from The Ullet Road and Brook House towards Penny Lane brook which has some lovely properties The areas I know are from clock tower Wavertree towards Childwall/ All have very good public bus rt services especially the Penny Lane Area

L18 L19 L16  this includes Childwall,  Penny Lane Allerton Road . yes you will have yobs as in any other city.

  3. Places change over time, and not always for the bettter.

Unfortunately the traditionally 'posh' areas of Liverpool stopped being posh about thirty years ago.

Gangsters and criminals colonised West Derby in the 1980s and only last week a convicted armed robber was gaoled for beating his sister's boyfriend to death in Birkenhead, making her children stamp on and kick the body, then in court he threatened to escape prison and kill the judge!

This prime specimen of an urbane gentleman was from the once-respectable Allerton!

People 'doing well' once aspired to move to Woolton Village but these days the shops have all installed steel shutters because of the drunken, violent antics of the flapping shirt-tail brigade.  It's all a bit 'common' now!

Similarly the once-shunned "Riot-Torn Toxteth" was traditionally populated by poor but decent folk, bohemians and a few students, but now it is fashionable, particularly the Canning Street area, these people have been displaced by selfish, noisy incomers and louts with money who show little consideration for the neighbours.

I think that you will have to make your choices based upon where your jobs are going to be, as commuting in Liverpool has become very slow and inconvenient over the past ten years.

  4. Old Swan

  5. You don't say if it's a state or church school you are looking for.  If it's a Catholic Primary then St. Pascal Baylon is rated as the BEST school in Merseyside.  It's on Childwall Valley Road.  It's unfortunate to see so many people talking about gangs, knives, etc - all I can say is that I've seen nothing to suggest there is any trouble with this in Childwall.  It's a quiet and nice suburb.

  6. Hello,

(ANS) I was born & grew up in Liverpool and my dad was a GP in Toxteth (inner city Liverpool) for most of his working life.

Recommendations are:- Childwall, Allerton Road, Mossly Hill, Woolton & woolton Village, Childwall five ways, Queens drive, Augburth. Thats just off the top of my head.

    Hope thats useful?

    Kind Regards Ivan

  7. I have researched liverpool and it's suburbs, there are several nice areas, unfortunately none are yob free and as so many of today's youngsters are influenced by ghetto, gutter rap, knife and gun culture madness, sexually deviating gyrating videos, etc. liverpool, far from becoming europe's shing cultural example, together with london , birmingham, nottingham, leicester, manchester, newcastle and so many other cities is a victim of those  morons who unfortunately live among the regular, hard working families are part of them and the neighborhoods, there is no escape.!

  8. Liverpool City area the nicest areas are in the south of the city.

Cressington Park, Woolton, Childwall, Allerton, Aigburth, Calderstones, Gateacre are all nice areas, but will cost significantly more for housing. In the north of the city West Derby is the best area, and has St Edwards College a prep and fee paying senior school which houses the cathedral Choir.

The schools are generally very good, Moss Pits in Childwall is a primary school rated 'outstanding' by OFSTED, and most of the better senior schools are situated in the south of the city (SFX, St Julies, The Bluecoat and Liverpool College)

If you want to stay close to Netherton/ Aintree then Maghull or Crosby would be the better areas, they are not in the Liverpool city area but have good schools, for example Merchant Taylor's in Crosby is one of the countries top independent schools.

I have linked to Liverpooltour.co.uk for Woolton, but use the links to the left to see pictures of the other areas.
