Question:

Which areas in NJ are nice?

My husband's whole family lives in long island, new york. and we are moving in November to be closer to his family, but we can't afford to live in NY. he has an uncle that lives in marlton, nj which is too expensive for us. which areas in NJ are nice yet affordable with good schools for our daughter?we can only really afford a house in the 180k mark. Any suggestions?

  1. South Jersey, along the Delaware river is pretty affordable. West Deptford, Woodbury, National Park, etc. All of these small town, southwest, New Jersy areas are nice and relatively inexpensive.


  2. Hi,

    I live in central Jersey, and real estate is quite expensive around here.  Southern Ocean county is still on the affordable side, as long as you stay away from the beaches.  It's Pine Barrens, mostly, which means that your soil is generally sandy, there are lots of pine trees (duh), and development is restricted.  There are lots of great parks.  Friends of mine live in Manahawkin and love the schools.  I'm not sure of the price of real estate, though.  

    The amount of high paying jobs is inversely correlated with housing prices of course, so be prepared to travel to work, unless you're in self-employed or in the service sector.
