  1. Hi Richard,

Wellington has many hills and not much flat land.

The main alpine fault line goes right through the centre of the city and it moves periodically. Check out its precise location on googleearth. com, and unless you like rock and roll, try to stay away from it.

Cold strong wet southerly winds can make winter h**l if you live in a site exposed to the south. Try a sheltered north facing area, but remember too that the north westerly blows hard and often. It's not usually a cold, wet wind though.

Many years ago I was told that the young inexperienced man buys his house up a slope or on a hill an Wellington, and works hard trying to establish a garden. The wiser, older man buys a property at the bottom of the hill and waits for the garden to come down to him.

    Very true!

  2. I I would stay out of Hutt Valley and Porirua. Probably not so good in Newtown either.

Check out some Wellington webcams -

  3. If youre looking for a safe neighbourhood keep out of the general Porirua area, Newtown, some parts of the Hutt Valley. Some very good 'family' type area's include Churton Park, Whitby (outter Porirua), Brooklyn, Roseneath, Ngaio, Khandallah, Chartwell, Seatoun, Island Bay, Miramar heights, Karori and quite a few others.

  4. porirua and newton heaps of gangs and crimes committed there!
