And during which mission? The camera was aimed at the Earth while he read--it was very moving. I can't seem to find any online video of it.

  1. It was Apollo 8, the first time humans went to the Moon (they didn't land on it though). It was on Christmas Eve, 1968.

Here is a video for you:

Some stupid athiest sued NASA over it. The judge threw it out because the incident occured outside of his jurisdiction - lol.

  2. I'm old enough to remember this, but didn't remember who.  Saw it on Science Channel program today:

"On December 24, 1968, in what was the most watched television broadcast to date, the crew of Apollo 8 read in turn from the Book of Genesis as they orbited the moon. William Anders, Jim Lovell, and Frank Borman recited verses 1 through 10, using the King James Version text."

  3. Like the other posters, I also remember when this happened.

  4. I can remember watching that happen.  It was Christmas eve and my family and I were watching, in amazement and awe, Apollo 8 orbit the moon while the astronauts read Gen 1.  I was amazed, even more so when I saw Apollo 10 touch down and Neil Armstrong step out, watching history happen,LIVE !!, in my living room.
