Which baby girl name do you like better: Allegra or Clarissa?

I'm due to have my daughter in less than two months and this are like the only names that I've like so far, but I want some help with your opinions or suggestions, too.

Allegra:Nice name, ruined by a drug company. I suppose if I wanted to name my child this, I'd spell it Aligra and pronounce it the Italian way, 'Ah-LEE-grah' rather than 'A-LEG-ra'.

Clarissa!  It's a lovely name, really pretty and elegant sounding, and if she wants to, she could always shorten it to Claire as a nickname when she's older.  Even as just Clarissa, I love the way it flows and sounds.

I know Allegra is an Italian name and all, but even if you've gotten over the allergy company, I don't think many other people have lol.  And those are the people she'll be surrounded by her whole life.

Also, Allegra kind of gives me the image of a really snooty, gold-digging middle-aged woman loaded with lots of tacky jewelry and ugly fur coats lol.  Even without the allergy medicine factored in, I don't like the name lol, especially in comparison to the softer, sweeter and more feminine Clarissa.

I dont know if you are the same generation as me, but Clarissa reminds me of that show "Clarissa Explains It All" and makes me not taking anyone seriously with that name.  I love the name Allegra - go with that and since it has 3 syllable already, I could pick a one syllable middle name.

Allegra is cute.  It's Italian, and flirty.  You could call her Ally.  I also like Clarissa.  It reminds me of the old show on Nick, "Clarissa Explains It All".  If you can comment on what "type" of name you like (southern, artsy, traditional, unique, etc.) I will edit my answer with more suggestions.

Both are lovely names for a girl. I'm personally drawn to Allegra but if you can't decide, why not make one her first name and the other her middle name. A person can have more than one middle name if you already have one picked out.

I really like both of them, but since Allegra is an allergy medicine, i'd have to go with Clarissa.  I really like that name, and there are cut nicknames like Clara or Claire.  There's also Cici and Rissy.

You are right Allegra has been ruined by that allergy medicine so I would go with Clarissa.  Not a personal favorite but it is a cute name.
