Question:

Which baby girl name will be less common in a few years?

I'm torn between Olivia Jade and Makenna Jade. Yes, that is the way I intend on spelling Makenna!

I love Olivia, it's been one of my favorite names for years, but I know it's becoming quite common. My question is which name could I name my daughter that say in 2-5 years will be less common? I don't want her to be surrounded by children that all share the same name. Any opinions would be appreciated!!! Any chance that Olivia will fall, or will she be one of many, many, MANY of them?! And what about Makenna...is that becoming, or has it ever been common?

Thanks!

  1. I say go with Olivia.

Olivia may be more common than Makenna at the moment but it definitely has a timeless feel while Makenna sounds more trendy.  I can picture an adult Olivia but not an adult professional named Makenna.

Plus Olivia is clear in spelling whereas she would always have to spell out her name if she were Makenna (since there's also Makena, Makenna, and Mckenna)

btw I love the middle name Jade.

PS-  On the Social Security name list Olivia is at it's lowest number since 2002 so it appears to be on a downswing. Although it is still much more common than Makenna ever was.

  2. I really like Makenna, I have only heard it twice, I have a cousin named Makenna and then you.  My mothers' best friends' name is Kenna so I am a bit biased.  I definitely think Makenna  will be less common though.

  3. I think that Olivia will become less popular - because it's so popular now. People will start shying away from it, but it will still be common in a few years. She won't be the only Olivia.

Makenna is not as common itself, but because it's part of the "McK..." trend the style of name will be popular. Think McKenzie, Makayla, etc

  4. I do not like Makenna

    Olivia is pretty

Olivia is a top ten name since 2001, a top 20 name since 1999. a top 50 name since 1993

I do not see Olivia being out of the top 100 girl names in a few years

I still will go with Olivia over Makenna

  5. I think Makenna will be less favorite becasue i havn't heard it yet.

  6. i have never heard of the name Makenna that would be a beautiful name and i dont think it is or will become common

  7. How about something like Ava May its pretty yet simple. Or maybe Amelia Clarise, Julia Elise, Anna (On-na) Cassia, Elena Marie, Elle or Ella Christine even a name like Violet Raye is beautiful and unique.

  8. Oh... I love them both!!! I think that Olivia is a more common name, but I wouldn't imagine that a lot of people TODAY would be naming their child that. I think Makenna sounds more up-to-date. More modern. Once someone hears it, it'll spread fast!

    They're both beautiful! Good luck!

  9. Makenna is not and probly wont be common - (but i dont rlly like it)

Olivia is more common but a nicer name definately..

Jade is a good mddlename 4 both

  10. Olivia has been around for years and it stays. Makenna is the least popular of the two. My teenagers have popular names and my daughter was always called Amanda D. she thought the "d" was part of her first name until she was 5 years old! and my son is Travis has 3 friends with his name. With our 3rd child we thought we picked an uncommon name and 6 months after she was born we found out that a couple on our same block named their baby the same name. My daughter is Harley Annmarie and their daughter is Harlee Marie!

Mu advice just pick a name that you love and stick with it! You never know what is going to happen!

  11. I don't know how popular it will be but i know she won't get teased with it.  I love Jade though!!

  12. Makenna less common, at least where I live I have never heard of it before

  13. I've known four Makennas, but only two Olivias.  I think Olivia is timeless and beautiful, whereas Makenna is part of the McName naming trend and would date someone.  Just like you just know when someone with my name grew up (Stephanie, 1980s).  I think Makenna is a LOT better than any of the other names in the McName trend.

    Good luck!

  14. Makeena is so pretty, Makeena Jade.

  15. my guess would be Mckenna. also, i love that name and that is the way it should be spelled in my opinion.

  16. well i have a great name kaci! it is a great name and not alot of name there kids tht..... hope it helps plz rate thx

  17. i would say that at the moment they rival each other in how common they are. I see olivia as becoming more popular over the next few years and mckenna at or near its peak in popularity. olivia is more timeless and a classic. mckenna is more grouped in with trendy Mc- names like Mckayla, Mackenzie...but its the least common of those types of names so while it is still cute as a button and current you aren't going to have to deal with two other girls with your kids name in her classes.

i prefer Olivia, personally. but Mckenna is a good choice too, however you choose to spell it.

  18. When I named my son I had the same dilemma. Pick as you wish since it is your baby. I moved back to a more traditional name since children don't have them anymore. My son is 16 and happy with the choice. Haven't read the baby books in awhile, but I love Gerilyn, Colleen,Diane, Tammy, Kristin, Rebekah & Linda. Give her a name that can let her stand out from a group! Best of life with your baby!!!

  19. they are all in the most popular baby name list right now. It just depends on how long they remain popular some last only a year or two others last 10 or more. You really can't predict something like that.

  20. Well Olivia is one of my favorite names and it is a classic. I don't think it well ever get to common. Makenna is a really cute name too. I think years from now Makenna will be less common than Olivia. When I think about naming a child I try to picture years from now when the child is grown in years, what will the name sound like to others. I also want a name that sounds good while they are young. When I say Makenna and Olivia, somehow Makenna sounds to strange on an older lady. The name is very nice for a young girl but I can't even picture an elderly lady with the name. I guess I think to much but that is how I am. I say Makenna for a less common name but for a name that grows with the child and is a classic, then pick, Olivia.

  21. Olivia is fairly common, but it's a classic name. Makenna is nice, but trendy. I'd go with Olivia - it also sounds better with Jade.

  22. Oh... Thats a really hard question! Both really common names! I think Makenna will be less common! And i like the name better! But also i do think Olivia will fall too!

    ~Good Luck!
