In case you didn't know, Pippin is the English form of Pepin, a very old French name which may mean "awe-inspiring". There are many famous Pepins in history, including the father of Charlemagne.

Denis is also a French name!

  1. Denis, since many people would think Pippin was the weirdest sounding name in the world.

  2. Denis is a cute name. Pippen sounds like your trying to say "Pimpin'", not really something you'd want associated with your child I'd assume.

  3. Pippin. I loove the meaning and the fact that it's French, but it sounds a bit weird. Might get bullied.

  4. Pippin is an awesome name!!!

  5. Well ... there have been a few famous Pepins deep in history, and two very well-known Pippins - the Hobbit and the main character in the Broadway musical.

It seems like that makes it not terribly wearable.  While I'm all for pulling names out of the history books, when more current references spring to mind, it's tough for your child to say "No, no, I'm named after the Kings of the Franks."

Denis is far more wearable, though perhaps a bit too far in the other extreme - a little safe.

Are there any other options you're considering?

  6. I like Denis. Pippin sounds like some other word.

    I hope that helps!!:)

  7. Not Pippin. The kids on the playground will be inspired..to tease

  8. Denis it would save a lot of teasing.

  9. I love Pippin...it makes me think of the little hobbit from Lord of the Rings.

  10. Both will cause ridicule towards your son. I'm sorry. I would legally change my name if it were Pippin. I don't care if I am named after a famous person in history or a little hobbit from Middle earth. LEGALLY CHANGED NAME!

    Denis is soo....gross.
