  1. St George have more AT M's than ANZ. You will need your birth certificate, id card(passport, drivers licence or proof of age card) medicare card. they have different types of accounts and you can check out their website www.stgeorge.com.au

  2. Yes Westpac is a very big bank.

    NAB have some good accounts. And they are Austalia wide.

    NAB Visa Gold is a great account to use. $12.00 a month and you can use you account as much or as little as you like and the best bit is if you put over $5000 in your account a month you don't pay the $12.00 fee.

  3. There are four main bank in australia, westpac, commonwealth, anz and nab.

    westpac -> http://www.westpac.com.au

    commonwealth -> http://www.commbank.com.au

    anz -> http://www.anz.com.au

    nab -> http://www.nab.com.au

    you need to work out what sort of account you want since different bank has slightly different offering in term of type of account, day to day account, saving account, term deposit account and they have different interest rate and fee.

    you can also look at credit union which does not attact lots of bank fee and generally has better interest rate like credit union australia.

    credit union australia -> www.cua.com.au

    credit union list in australia -> http://www.abacus.org.au/credit_unions/f...

    building society list in australia -> http://www.abacus.org.au/building_societ...

    you check out their website and you can decide where you want to put your money.

    interm of paperwork, you need to bring your passport as well as one bill that is no more than 3 months old which has your name and address in australia, since they just change the requirement to open bank account in australia.

    I hope that helps and good luck.

    Cheers

  4. The Commonwealth is the biggest, but their interest rates and other account charges are horrible.

    Personally, I'd recommend the St George bank.

    The big ones are: Commonwealth, ANZ, St George, NAB and Westpac. But there's also some Building Societies that are really reliable as well.

    Here's a comparison chart to give you a few options:

  7. ANZ is a great one.

    It's big

    There are plenty of atms around and it's not expsnesive to use other banks atms with there card.

    The fees are super super cheap and it's very easy to set the account up.

    It really simple to use and really simple to acsess your acount over the net to.

    The people that work in the brances tend to be very friendly to in my opinion comapred to other banks ive been to.

    Good luck
