  1. Alwin is incorrect.

I have a Visa credit card-not an EC or debit card-from the Volksbank that my husband and I received and doesn´t have an annual fee.

  2. There are some banks that have free credit cards

I can recommend SPARDA BANK, Hamburg  free checking account and free credit card

  3. in germany they dont use many credit cards.. occasionally at a mall or a street market they would allow visa.. if you were to get visa or mastercard i wouldnt get either.. because they dont use them much.. but there are some stores that accept visa. and if you wanted to get one i would recommend visa.

  4. No bank does. In Germany, we have another scheme: You may have a bank account at debit base only, and will get a cash card with which you can pay at any cash terminal throughout Europe, and be able to draw cash at any ATM throghout Europe at the issuing bank's partner banks. (Be aware that that might not be ALL European banks, and with some banks, fees may be involved.) If you intend to stay longer, open a bank account in Euros, and get the "ec card". It's good as gold in Europe, whereas a golden Amex might not be quite respected.

  5. check with S.E.B and Sparda-Bank. But most probably no page in english available.

    www.seb.de

    www.sparda-bank.de

    could be the pages.

  6. Alwin is not informed well, of cause there are a lot credit cards without any annual costs at least for the first year and if your annual transactions are more than 1200 € the following year is free as well.

Daimler-Chrysler Band, ADAC, Barcleys and so on there are some internet sites where you can inform yourself about the best conditions.

@to Rachey, yes I know you still believe that we live in the last century and cook on open fire but I asure you, we got as many credit cards as we want/need/afford/adore

Germany is not somewhere behind the moon.

  7. Are you student?

When you can get a free one for the first year at the Deutsche bank. Or at some Sparkassen.

Depends there you are- there are local differences. Citibank should also have some for non students for free

  8. I have a Mastercard from Karstadt (it's a department store, not a bank), it's always free. You only pay a fee when you use the card abroad. You can get it online or in the store.

    http://www.karstadt.de/kategorieAnzeigen...

    (left go to Kreditkarte)

  9. almost every online-bank offfers a free credit card.

I choose DKB cos with the dkb visa card, every cash withdrawl is free, everywhere in the world.
