I want to get a bank account but I can't decide between these banks. Please don't mention any other banks as these are my only choices and are more local. So which bank do you recommend me and why?

  1. Don't get WaMu. They are at risk at going out of business, and there is no reason to open an account there, as there are no real advantages. I like Bank of America, but it is totally up to you. I have found that Bank of America offers more credit cards, etc...

Bank of America is also a much bigger bank, so if you go on vacation, there will be a greater chance of having a Bank of America near you than a Wells Fargo.

Bank of America also has free checking if you open the account online. I know Wells Fargo didn't used to do this, but they might do it now.

  2. I have a bank of America account, and a wells fargo account.  I like bank of America's website better and they offer free online bill pay, which I use for everything.  You can track your spending with bank of america easier because through online banking you can categorize your purchases like "gas" "food" "rent" "aunt sally" etc.  there are more BofA's and that is nice, I've moved in the last few years, without having to switch banks, unfortunately the nearest wells fargo is 40 miles away.

I've never had a problem with either, but of course I only have one credit card (that I'm cancelling soon http://www.daveramsey.com/) and I've never had an overdraft.

  3. I went with B of A.  I travel a lot and have never had a problem finding an ATM.  Their website is pretty good, and since they offer a lot of different types of accounts, if you have home loans or credit cards with them, you can monitor everything on the same site.

  4. I have both worked for Wamu and banked with them for 9 years. I have never had a bad experience with them. They strongly believe in customer service and train heavily in it. Their services are great and are always improving.

    Good Luck with your choice.

  5. I think bank of america as it is a well known and sound bank i dont know much about the others.
