Which bank will benefit me more?

Question

I want to know which bank I should join. I'm new at finance and banks and I want to know which of these banks are better; Bank of America, IBC, Chase, or Wells Fargo

It depends on what you life is like.  If you may want a home mortgage in the next few years, I'd suggest WAMU.  I know they are getting a lot of bad press now (much of it deserved), they have still been a very consumer-oriented bank for many years.  Their customer service has been great and they seem to ding you less with junk fees.

Wachovia also has good customer service if they have a branch in your area.  

Also consider a local bank.  They are especially good if you may want a home improvement loan or some other type of loan, such as for a business.  

Wherever you bank, make a point of going inside to make your deposits at least part of the time.  Greet the folks sitting at desks.  Let them get to know you so when you do need a loan they will remember you are an established customer.

Finally, do not ever bounce a check or get overdrawn from a debit card.  Be a good customer and later on it will be a huge advantage.

I from NJ Bank of America has more atms by me. Wachovia atms are in Atlantic City Casinos. Read your town paper some of the small local banks offer free checking to people who have no money or no or low balances.

I work in a bank and just because you have an account at a specific institution does not mean that you can not invest at another one.  I personally like Bank of America because they are widespread and financially stable. (No this is not the bank I work for) I do have an account at the bank that I do work for. However, I also have CD's and other investments at Bank of America and a smaller town bank.
