Which bark collar works the best?

Question

I have an electric one and it works fine but when I take it off either of my two dogs, they will be silent for a couple of days but then they start barking again. I don't like to be the a***e neighbor with the dogs that disturbs people, and it bothers me, so I have 0 tolerance for barking unless they are inside and I am playing with them

Do the spray ones work better? If I don't find a solution soon I just may keep it on permanently.

I have found it is more effective for us to teach 'no bark' to our dogs.  They get 2 barks and then they are put up for a short time out.  They quickly learn that to be outside they need to be quiet.

It sounds as though your dogs are very smart, and have figured out that the collar only works when it's ON them!

The impulse ones seem to work best on large dogs, or ones that are stubborn barkers. The citronella spray ones often suit dogs that are afraid of the impulse/sonic ones, or who have a low tolerance for stimulation.

Maybe after using the electronic collars for a few days you could take the battery out, or remove the actual 'unit' from the collar. That way they would still wear the collar, it just wouldn't be effective. This depends on the style and design of your existing collars though.

Collars and harnesses are made of the same materials and serve the same purpose--attaching your dog to a leash. But they work in different ways and some dogs will do better with one versus the other.

I think all you can do is put the collars back on when they bark. Eventually they will learn that if they bark the will get the collar back on.

Bark Collars work best -

Put the bark collar on him when hes outside and barking- then just leave it on untill he is calm and laying down.[submissive]

The spray ones are a joke...they sell a mock bark collar that works after having the real collar on for a couple of days, you put on this fake one which is much smaller and the dog thinks that it still cant bark without correction. Hope I Helped!!

Dogtra's YS 300 is really nice.

It's designed to vibrate then stim.

So, after the dog knows what the deal is, you can take the metal contact points out and put in the plastic ones.  They can still get the vibration, but the metal contact points won't irritate their skin if the collar is left on all the time.
