Question:

Which basic training would be harder for me: Air Force or Navy?

I am not too strong but am fairly intelligent. I am an Eagle scout if that matters. I might take AF basic training in the summer, too.

I hear that AF basic training is extremely easy and that people get "receycled" if they do poorly in basic training.

Does this happen in the Navy as well?

  1. Well the army wasn't too bad for me but I was well in shape beforehand. Like one of the others said if you keep your mouth shut and ears open you shouldn't have a problem.

  2. The Navy's Basic training is not hard at all. The requirements are simple. You have to attend certain classes that will familiarize you to certain functions a sailor is expected to know such as basic damage control, shipboard firefighting, and Naval Customs. You will have to pass a Third Class Swim Test and perform 54 Sit-ups, 46 Pushups and run 1.5 miles in 12:15. Prior to completion you will have to part take in an event called "Battle Stations" which a series of simulations of shipboard catastrophes. Its the Navy's version of the "Crucible

". I believe Battle Stations has been revamped making it easier.

Bootcamp is easy. Hope you dont smoke because you're not allowed to smoke during the duration.

  3. AF is a bit longer, and Navy is about 9 weeks. But listen, in any boot camp, if you don't make the best of it and try your best then you'll do horrible and it will feel hard. Navy is more about what you learn and yes, physically it's almost the same but not as much. Http://www.mynavyonline.com go there and they can help more.

  4. Are you going to let basic training decide which branch you would go in? If so that's not a good way to make a decision, and you may end up hating the rest of your enlistment if you base it all on basic training. Do actual research on the each of the branch, and talk to people that are actually in the service. Basic training is only 6-8 weeks depending where you go, but after that you're in for years!

  5. You need not worry about Basic training. It comes and goes. It's the career path you choose that matters. Neither are the Army or the Marines.

Navy bootcamp can be a little tough, but it's mostly exercises, classroom time, swimming, etc. Same with Air Force(Deduct swimming).

If you want to go out to sea alot, then the Navy is right for you. If you want to be a pilot, either branch would be good because both the Air Force and the Navy have pilots. If you want more a less a deskjob(on land) then go Air Force.

Either way you WILL be deployed. You WILL NOT get to call home much at all if any during basic. You WILL go through h**l in basic regardless.

Choose between the two based on what career and job you want. NOT on which boot camp is tougher.

  6. Air Force is easiest for men.

    Navy is easiest for women.

  7. It depends on what you're looking for in the training. Navy focuses more on aerobics and swimming and such, Air Force is more based on regimen, discipline, and appearance. Yes, the AF "recycles" because the military is looking for quantity over quality nowadays, and I believe the Navy does the same.

  8. I believe that AF boot camp is tougher than the Navy. The Army, Navy, and Air Force will recycle you to another training group to give you another chance at passing the physical test.

The Marines are a bit tougher. If you can't meet basic qualifications to get in, you're not getting in. Also, they usually give you one or two chances and then you're out.

  9. Skye gives good advice.  Don't make a decision about which branch based on boot camp.  It sucks in all the branches, but the other hand is that it's only 8 weeks long, then it's over.

  10. If I had it to do over again, I'd go AF.  However, due to politics in my area (the AF ROTC was at the rival high school) I joined the Army.  The Air Force is the way to go if you don't really do boats (I get sea sick) and you'll be able to use your intellect.  Basic is going to be tough no matter the branch to get you into a military mindset over civilian.  You also want to evaluate why you are joining the service.  If it's just for the college money and not to serve your country, reconsider.  I couldn't convince a friend of mine he was going to be deployed before he joined (just for the college money) and now he is on his way overseas.  Your motive for joining will reflect on your performance.

  11.   Keep your ears open and your mouth shut---and youll get through AF basic ok

    good luck

  12. Navy is more physically demanding, but that doesn't mean Air Force is easy. If you're an Eagle Scout, be sure to mention that to your recruiter because you can automatically start out one pay grade higher. The hardest thing about Navy basic, from what I hear, is battle stations...you have to stay awake for 3 days at your battle station and run drills. The hardest thing about Air Force basic, from what I hear, is that every day you have to fold your clothes and line up the threads perfectly with a pair of tweezers...
