Which beach town/ city close to Santo Doming airport Dominican Republic has the cheapest, nice hotels?

Definitely that town would be Juan Dolio. It’s about 35 minutes away from the airport and about one hour and a half from Santo Domingo (the Capital). I just came from a resort there and through Orbits.com I got a two day resort for $81 dollars.

One recommendation. I would avoid the all inclusives, yes they are a good deal but the food and drinks in the D.R. are very good and very cheap. You will experience more of the real Domincan life not spending all your time eating and drinking in the same place.

Like Yagi already answered you, it is Juan Dolio or Boca Chica, because Santo Domingo (capital) don't have any beaches. Of course you can find there some guesthouse/hotel with b&b for reasonable prices. The classic all inclusive hotel/resorts as well. Happy to help you

its  a  little   cheepa  in  boca  chica  and  a  little  closer  than  juan  by  about  20  minutes  , but  be  careful  !  these  two  stretches  of  sand  are  2  different  worlds  .  boca  is a  sleezy party  town   for  those  lookin  for  the  dirty, wild  and  the  obnoxious  while  juan  is  more  like  a  calm  quiet   gondola  ride  for  you  and  your  lover  .  well,  you  get  the  point. ....  goza !
