  1. Don't use softwoods.

Softwoods - cedar and pine - contain high levels of phenols, known to cause respiratory and liver disease. They can also cause allergic skin reactions. Avoid these at all costs.

Aspen is a good bedding as it is a hardwood. Other safe beddings include carefresh, megazorb and similar paper based products.

Someone has suggested hay - piggies need hay to eat, and love rustling around in it, but it isn't suitable as a bedding on its own. You still need something absorbant underneath.

Fleece is great, and very cost effective, but it only works if you use it properly. The basic idea is you have a layer of fleece on top of a thick layer of absorbant fabric (eg towels). The fleece wickis urine away, so the surface stays dry and the pee is absobed by the bottom layer. You do need to sweep up poops every day.

  2. the best bedding for guinea pigs are the ones from petco and petsmarts  good luck!

  3. I use CareFresh. It's a good brand and really soaks up that urine. The smell has never reached my nose and it doesn't get dusty. It's a great brand. Whatever you use don't use PINE or CEDAR shavings. These are bad for your piggy and can cause upper respiratory problems. Good luck!

  4. Aspen and kiln dried pine is fine to use.

Carefresh or fleece are other options: http://www.guinealynx.info/bedding.html

  5. i suggest you use hay.

they like it and its warm and inexpencive.

  6. I started off with care fresh which is a great type of bedding, but then about a month ago I switched to fleece. It saves money in the long run because you can wash it, then reuse it, lol my pigs also love it!

  7. Don't use Aspen, Cedar, or Pine bedding. Cedar and Pine are extremely bad or aspen just makes a huge mess and some animals are allergic to it. I use Yesterday's News, it is recycled news paper in little tiny pellets, its biodegradable, not as dusty as some bedding, and very absorbent.
