Question:

Which bedroom layout will give me the most space?

I'm 19 and unsuccessfully trying to arrange my bedroom furniture to allow for more floor space. I'm dealing with a twin bed, nightstand, blanket chest, two dressers, a desk, and a bookcase in a 9'x12' room. My current layout works, but is a little crowded, and with my bed jutting out from the wall, I have a narrow walkway from one side of my room to the other.

I apologize for the lack of visuals, especially if this link fails, but here is an attempt to realize my situation. I would appreciate any suggestions.

  1. I have never worked with this type of thing before , I must say that it is a very clever idea, I hope that my moves can be of some help to you , use a smaller rug if your room is not large .

  2. I would put the bed (head board) on the left hand wall (not under the window) and the desk on the top wall (so you can get good light from the window). Put one of the dressers between the two doors, and leave the book case where it is.  The other dresser under the upper window.

I hope this is descriptive, because I did not register into the site to save the results.

  3. I couldn't get to your link but first off you just have too much furniture in your room.  Two dressers are too many and a blanket chest is just using up space.  The bookcase needs to go.  You can work a desk/bookcase unit into the room but not two separate pieces.  Utilize your space under your bed and get rid of the blanket chest.  Build bookcases above your desk and get rid of the bookcase.  Make better use of your closet and get rid of one dresser. Hang shoes on the inside of your closer door.  Get plastic drawers for your closet shelves to put clothing. And use special closet drape hangers for your clothes.  They can hang six items in one single row.  It's all possible.  Use your one nightstand as storage so it should have at least two drawers.  I would buy a piece of furniture that had three drawers however.  Hang your lights on either side of the bed so you don't take up space with lamps on the table and still have good lighting.

  4. I didn't know how to get the room I did forwarded to you, so I'll just describe it.

Move the bed to the upper left corner, move the desk to the wall on the top.  The dresser with the TV to the wall on the bottom and arrange the others as you prefer.  It will feel like you have more space and it'll at least be different.  You can also get a nice large plant or tall light behind the bed. Also, to give it a different look, hang a sheer or gauzy material in the corner over the bed.  Good luck!  Have fun with it.

  5. I would put the bed right in the corner the long way along the 12 ft wall. The blanket chest right at the foot of the bed. The throw rug should go where you get out of bed..right about there. The desk should go in front of the window on the 9 ft wall. The area rug should go sorta under your desk then come out to the middle of the room. The night stand should fit between the desk and the bed with room to spare. The book case can go on the 12 ft wall by the desk but on the left side of the window (to create kinda an office look) . One of the dressers can go on the other side of the window on the 12 ft. wall . The other dresser can go on the 9 ft wall with no window in the middle of the wall. That can be where you put your tv and you can lay in bed and still see it. Thats what i would do. I used your layout thingy..but I couldnt save it to show you. It pretty much has your furniture against the walls. You'll have alot more floor space this way.

  6. I revised your plan, I hope it helps

  7. Here is an image that I did with your program there. I didn't rotate the rug though. But the way it's set up it gives you the entire center of your room as open space.
