I have narrowed my choices down to:

specialized

fuji

gary fisher

khs

canondale

Someone help me lol, the idea is to purchase a bike that I can use to commute to work on all paved roads as well as take out and use on trails on the weekends. I think I might purchase a cheap wheelset and use two different sets of wheels. Anyone with a link or advice on how to do that post here too. If anyone has links to bikes they like and would recommend throw them my way. 2 things to keep in mind I'm tall so I would need a 23 inch or so frame and I want to keep it relatively cheap 600 is what I'm looking at, below would be great I've seen a few bikes I like in the 350-450 range so yea please help! Thanks in advance. Oh and the trails wouldn't be too intense but intense enough they need to handle intense trails lol if that makes any sense.

  1. canondale.

  2. check out the specialized rockhopper, hardtail. I used to have a 21" frame, but traded it for my 19" stumpjumper. at 6'2", the stumpy's a better fit. see if your LBS can help with the wheelset too. or there are plenty of places to go online. just google "mountain bike wheelsets"..

  3. specialized... i have a specialized and i take it on some hard trails, and i also take it on the road, u can purchase slicks for the road, and if your tall i would recomend the 29ers...  u can google it and see them

  4. If you don't like the hassle of of changing gears, I'd recommend a fixed gear bicycle. Specialized makes a "Langster" and Fuji makes a "Bowery" both are fast bikes for commuting to work.
