Question:

Which bird would be ok?

I've been asking questions about which pet my parents could put in the lobby of their vet clinic for people to watch and look at. So far birds seem to be the best suitors for this environment. I was wondering though, which breed or type would be best. I've been reading up on different kinds of birds but i'm still new to it.

Here's the situation:

Cage would be up front with some people walking around maybe dogs and cats, also a tv on and telephones ringing from time to time.

Something docile, but we can still put a sign on the cage that says "do not stick fingers in cage" if needed.

Something that doesn't crave human attention. My mom will be feeding it and cleaning it's cage whenever needed, and i am only up there about twice a week, but i will try to play with it.

Something that doesn't SCREAM! However "singing" or chirping is quite ok.

Also what about night? Should we leave the tv or music on?

So far the best options seem to be parakeets, lovebirds, or cockatiels.

  1. Parakeets would be the best of your three choices that you named, finches would be another. I would be afraid of the problems with placing a cage of birds in a lobby of a vet clinic. I can only imagine the stress that the bird(s) would feel with all the noise and dogs jumping around. At night I would leave the TV and radio off so that the bird would have some calm time. If you go with a larger bird, biting would be a factor that the clinic couldn't afford without really good insurance.

  2. i would deff go with a cockitiel if i were you, they love humans but can easily play by themselves, most are handtame by the time you buy them and they can sing and whistle but are crazy loud, goodluck!  check out http://www.parrotcentral.net/cockatiels.... for good tiel info

  3. Parakeets (or budgies) would be great they can live in pairs and are not very loud and will not scream.

Or u can get canaries they will sing and they can be kept in pairs they can sing beautifully!!!

  4. If you want birds that do not seek human attention...I would not get a cockatiel, if you do decide on parakeets or love birds get 2 females to keep each other company...make sure where ever you get them not only guarantees the s*x but gives a health guarantee and knows their age as well....finches are an option also as they are available in a lot of pretty varieties..again 2 females is my personal recommendation as males could show aggression and you should not breed in this environment

  5. well if you want an entertaining bird i suggest a canary they sing and are realy pretty birds and are pretty cheap.parakeets they are good in pairs and can say some words and sing but usualy only boys sing.love birds:love bird need to be in paris there very colorful and friendly birds and do learn to chirp or sing but are not realy known for saying words.cocatiels are entertaining good singers good talkers and also are very entertaining.i would go for all of them its a hard choice but i say canary or a cocatiel.there great singers and very entertaining you can even put them together if you  like! good luck~.(also if you want a sining talking bird get a male there better and are more known to doing this)

  6. If it's something that's not going to be played with very often, but still around people, I would suggest a parakeet/budgie in a large cage with lots of toys, or some species of finch or canary. Tiels, lovebirds, etc, all really need human interaction and would be loud when they were upset (which could happen with the dogs/cats continually going in and out) or bored (happens a lot, they're smarter than people give them credit for), actually budgies like attention too, but will be ok if they have toys.

  7. i would probably say parakeet as well.. I really love cockatiels but they scream a lot and you said you didnt want that...
