  1. I am an expert at Chess and also a decent Go player.  No experience at Xiangqi.  Reading through the link you provide, I am amazed that two games with different origins like chess and Xiangqi can have so much in common.  Still, chess figures to be more complex because it has such a powerful Queen and allows pawn promotions.  Comparing only Chess and Xiangqi, I give Chess a small to medium edge.

If you include Go in the comparison, there is no question - Go is by far the most complex of the three games.

  2. GO

  3. I've played Chess for 25 years and XiangQi for 5 years.

In terms of  mathematical permutations of positions. the edge is in favor of Chess. While there are more spaces in XiangQi (90) compared Chess (64).. 10 of the pieces in XiangQi are limited in the number of spaces the piece can occupy in the game. In Chess there are also 10 pieces which cannot occupy every space on the game board.. but in total.. the 10 pieces in Chess can occupy far more spaces than the 10 pieces in XiangQi. (2 of the pieces in XiangQi can only occupy 5 of the 90 places on the game board) In addition.. there is Pawn Promotion in Chess..which results in an increased number of permutations of positions.

I prefer to play XiangQi.. because in my opinion.. the game is more elegant and intuitive in design than Chess. The fact the game is older than Chess is cool too.

In terms of game complexity.. GO.. in spite of it's simple rules.. is far more complex than Chess and XiangQi.

  4. I think it's Go - I saw a chart...
