  1. Atlas Shrugged

  2. I loved Anthem - it was downright thought-provoking - something you don't find as easily in books as you used to.

  3. The only thing I've read by her so far is her play The Night of January 16th. I think I like it mainly from my love of theatre, but it's also a great courtroom-thriller-murder-mystery-audien... combo.

  4. I am a fan of Rand's novels generally, though I really do not like Anthem very much at all. I've read Atlas Shrugged at least a dozen times, and The Fountainhead too. Atlas Shrugged is a tour de force, and there really is no other novel quite like it. I was much fonder of it in my youth than I am now though.

The Fountainhead is beautifully written and somewhat less aggressive than Atlas Shrugged. I'm quite attached to a number of its characters, and many of its scenes stand vividly in my mind's eye.

In a lot of ways, though, We The Living is my favorite of her novels, for several reasons. One is that it is much less polemical than the others, while still espousing the essential philosophy. Another is that it is set in Russia at the time of the Stalinist Revolution and I find that interesting. Thirdly, it is a simpler story that speaks to many universals, and to the heart as well. I think it is sadly underrated and I believe it is frequently overlooked because of the philosophical expectations that are put on Rand by readers and critics alike.

Read them all, you won't be sorry. Just don't pass We The Living by due to its lack of fame. The lead character is unforgettable, as is the ending.

    Enjoy.

***Edit) By the way, Alas, Babylon was written by Pat Frank, not Ayn Rand.

  5. The Fountain Head

It's just a really great. memorable, inspiring book.

  6. I like "Alas, Babylon" because it explores what the apocalypse might be like in a local situation.

It's different from her other books, because it's essentially science fiction, and I love SF.
