At the moment, I am reading a terrible novel called "The tower of Zanid" and I plan to abandon it and start a better one. When thinking about the kind of story I'd like to read, I remembered that a year ago I read a very good book by Georges Simenon, called "The man who watched the trains go by". I was fascinated by the way the protagonist builds his own internally-logical reality while actually having a mental disorder. I've always linked Simenon to his Maigret series, and I was pleasantly surprised to read such an excellent book while expecting just another detective story. Now I hope he must have written more like that, but if I just choose one of his books at random, I'm afraid it will turn out to be either another maigret book or one of his political ones (I've read one or two but don't remember titles). So can you tell me which of his books are neither detective nor political stories? Best would be if you could name one similar to "The man who watched the trains go by". I'd also appreciate recommendations for similar books by other authors.
