Which books can get me started on ham radio, which start right from the basics. These must be available in india.

  1. do not know about Indian law, but a couple good starter books would be the ARRL Handbook for the Radio Amateur and the RSGB Handbook. ARRL is USA and RSGB is UK

    Nice to know that you are keen to be a Amateur (HAM) Radio Operator.

    I am also Amateur (HAM) Radio Operator from India with callsign is VU3ORN.  Here in India Wireless & Planning Commission under the Ministry of Communication is the authority for Amateur Radio.

    There is regular qualifying exams. conducted by the Monitoring Stations under WPC at various cities of India every month.  During my preparation for the exam of Amateur Radio the following few books I consulted.  You can purchase all those or can have one or two as per your choice.  Price of each book is less than Rs. 100/=.  For your convinence I am writing here the Bookd name, Writerd name and the publisherd name.

  3. In the US, Ham radio is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission.  I don't know what the rules are in India but you will have a government organization like the FCC and you must inquire there.  Meanwhile, here's a good site for a US overview:
