My dad and I will be visiting South Texas and I want to know which town would be better to visit. Things to keep in mind - food, shopping, and the fact that we will be on foot (we are goign to walk across the bridge). Thanks!

  1. Of those two Reynosa, but check out the answers to question on Matamoros:

It's not too far from Reynosa.

  2. Why in the world would you want to visit a Mexican border town? All the border towns are dirty, crowded, and full of crime and local police corruption. Stay at the beaches in south Texas - you'll have a better time, and you'll be much safer. If, however, you insist on crossing the border take a bus and visit some of the great and beautiful places further south.

  3. THERE ARE MORE THINGS IN REYNOSA

  4. Progresso is much better for the tourist than Reynosa.  Also, most of the people in Progresso speak English and that is not the case in Reynosa.  There are more touristy places in Progresso and better places to eat.  Most Americans who live on the US side cross to Progresso for the day.  Reynosa is not a place for tourists although it is safe, progresso seems to be safer.  It is also easy to cross the bridge in Progresso and cheaper to park ($1.50 vs. $4.00).  Have a great time.  I live across the bridge from Reynosa and prefer to go to Progresso.  However, remember both cities are border towns and not typical of Mexico in general.
