  1. If this is a question of personal interest seeking the name of the agency:

    Income tax and social security tax are collected by the IRS.

    Tarriffs, import duties, etc., are collected by CBP (customs and border patrol).

    If this is a question for school:

    There are 3 branches of government.  The legislative branch (Congress) imposes taxes.  The executive branch collects the taxes.


  2. IRS is separate from branches. But branches dictate policy on what is taxed in US.
