I'm very confused about which is better air national guard or army national guard. I get very good grades in school and is okay shape (thin but no muscle). I want to be in the best. I'm a girl and I'm only 15. I know I can't enlist now but is there something like ROTC or something i can do (when i'm like 17. I'm doing this for college. Are you well taken care of financially?

I know this is a lot, but could you kind of explain what the branch you like does.

THanks!!!!

  1. JROTC is Junior ROTC. Its usually high school ROTC.  JROTC usually teaches Drill and Ceremony, leadership, marksmanship, weapons, army organization, first aid, and maybe Army history.  The best thing JROTC does is give experience in small group leadership.

  2. Neither is "better".  Pick the service that best suits you.  Start visiting their websites and do some footwork.  Army is primarily ground.  Air Force is primarily air.

  3. you only get paid for the days you work. so if you are a weekend warrior and work only weekends, you will get a weekends worth of money.

    go Active Duty

you can join at age 17 with a waiver from your parents.  and I would go with Marines or Air Force if you want the best

  4. You want money for college, and the military has lots of it for that purpose. There are different ways to get Uncle Sam to foot most,or all, of the bill.

    1. Enlist in the Army or Navy and take training that offers the greatest amount of college money. Complete your service, come home and go to college full-time. You will be older than some of the frosh, but a whole lot smarter about the world and yourself. PS, veterans have a very high completion rate historically.

    2. Enlist in the Army or Air Force Guard. Check your state's policy. In PA, NJ and DE, the state will pay for up to 12 semester hours of college at a state run or affiliated institution. You get the assistance based partially on satisfactory attendance at monthly drills, and completion of schools such as basic training and military occupational school, and your college attendance and grades.

    3. Enroll in ROTC and see if you can get a scholarship from the military. You will "Pay back" the scholarship with service after graduation.

I wish you the best. Keep yourself active in sports and civic duties. Do watch out for your knees, girls have a much higher incidence of knee injuries at your age than boys. Something to do with muscular development in boys vs. girls.

  5. Air Force, definitely. Since you say you get good grades, go to college first. DON'T join right after high school. You'll be at the bottom of the pit in ranking at the AF. They call them "grunts". When you go to college then onto the AF, you'll have a high ranking. College is the good way to go. My grandfather went right onto the Air Force. It took him a few years to even be promoted to the next rank. Said not going to college was the worst idea he'd ever made. Not to mention, people would have greater respect for you in being that you went to college. You'll also have a good backup after your retirement from the Air Force since you'll already have your degree. Go to college, don't take the easy way out.

  6. I've faced that decision as well, but I say join the Navy.
