I am so torn between electric and manual. Half of the moms I know tell me manual is best some say electric all the way. Plllllllease help lol. I am 31 weeks tomorrow, my baby shower is 9/28 so I want to make sure I get my list finalized. I want to breastfeed exclusively and when I go back to work I still want my baby to have breast milk. Please help. thanks.

  1. I recommend electric. I have a Lansinoh double electric pump that I absolutely love and it cost half the price as the Medela. I found it at Walmart, I think that it worked just as well as the industrial one that I used at the hospital.

  2. If you are going to be pumping daily you want to get a good electric one. Medela makes some really nice one great for daily use. Honestly though, no one is going to buy you a breast pump at your shower. I would wait till your baby is born and see how things go before you spend $200-300 on a pump. Also ask your OB if your state allows insurance companies to help pay for pumps. In Illinois they do, and you can get a HUGE discount through a medical supply store on your pump. Your OB would just write a prescription for it.

  3. I used the manual pump and found that it worked well.  I supoose you could get both and then see which one you prefer. Put both on the list.

  4. congratulations, and good job on choosing to breastfeed exclusively! it's really the only way to go!

i have an avent double electric pump. i LOVE it!! it's relatively quiet, comes with it's own carry case, and comes with the parts to make it into a manual pump if you want to take it with you on the go! so nice. my daughter is 11 weeks, and i pump at midnight so i'm not engorged in the morning (she sleeps all night) and i usually pump off about 6-7 oz in about 20 minutes!

the singles and manuals works good too, but i find once i get letdown, it comes rushing out, and by the time i'm ready to pump the other side, the letdown won't come again, and i can't empty the other breast as effectively, so try to get a double pump! you will collect more milk in less time.

  5. I think I would go with electric it can talk half an hour to get  1oz on a manual pump

  6. Get both!

Electric is great if you need to store for future feedings.

I used Medela Pump in Style & Playtex Embrace.

Both are excellent & both have optional car lighter adapters so that you can use them when you aren't home.

For manual I recommend the Avent Isis

  7. I will say manual pump if u want to occasionally express and electric if u want to express exclusivly. Personally i prefer manual as u can control the suction. I have Avent Isis. Once breast feeding is established you can pump more than 4 ounce in 20 minutes
