  1. Only breeds of tiger would be the "domestic" ones that have been crossed.  Tiger are either specie or subspecies.  All are considered endangered now.

  2. There are no 'breeds' of tiger. A breed is a variety of domestic animal that has been selectively bred by humans for certain characteristics - for example, German Shepherd and Rottweiler are breeds of dog, and Shire and Arab are breeds of horse.

There is only one species of tiger, Panthera tigris, but there are 6 living subspecies, all of which are endangered. They are:

    Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris)

Siberian (or Amur) tiger (P.t. altaica)

    Indo-Chinese tiger (P.t. corbetti)

    Malayan tiger (P.t. malayensis)

    Sumatran tiger (P.t. sumatrae)

    South China tiger (P.t. amoyensis)

There are also 3 subspecies which are already extinct, entirely due to the actions of human beings. These are (or were):

    Javan tiger (P.t. sondaica)

    Bali tiger (P.t. balica)

    Caspian tiger (P.t. virgata)

Scientific Name:   Panthera tigris: TIGER: EN C2a(i)

    Infra-specific Taxa Assessed:

See Panthera tigris ssp. virgata: CASPIAN TIGER, HYRCANIAN TIGER, TURAN TIGER: EX

See Panthera tigris ssp. balica: BALI TIGER: EX

See Panthera tigris ssp. sondaica: JAVAN TIGER: EX

    EXTINCT (EX)

A taxon is Extinct when there is no reasonable doubt that the last individual has died. A taxon is presumed Extinct when exhaustive surveys in known and/or expected habitat, at appropriate times (diurnal, seasonal, annual), throughout its historic range have failed to record an individual. Surveys should be over a time frame appropriate to the taxon's life cycle and life form.

    CRITICALLY ENDANGERED (CR)

A taxon is Critically Endangered when the best available evidence indicates that it meets any of the criteria A to E for Critically Endangered (see Section V), and it is therefore considered to be facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.

    C. Population size estimated to number fewer than 250 mature individuals and either:

    1. An estimated continuing decline of at least 25 percent within three years or one generation, whichever is longer, (up to a maximum of 100 years in the future) OR

    2. A continuing decline, observed, projected, or inferred, in numbers of mature individuals AND at least one of the following (a-b):

    (a) Population structure in the form of one of the following:

    (i) no subpopulation estimated to contain more than 50 mature individuals, OR

(ii) at least 90 percent of mature individuals in one subpopulation.

    D. Population size estimated to number fewer than 50 mature individuals.

    ENDANGERED (EN)

A taxon is Endangered when the best available evidence indicates that it meets any of the criteria A to E for Endangered (see Section V), and it is therefore considered to be facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild.

    C. Population size estimated to number fewer than 2500 mature individuals and either:

    2. A continuing decline, observed, projected, or inferred, in numbers of mature individuals AND at least one of the following (a-b):

    (a) Population structure in the form of one of the following:

    (i) no subpopulation estimated to contain more than 250 mature individuals, OR
