I have a Samsung ln-t4081f LCD and I just bought an upscale dvd player. I've also bought two cables a Monster Ultra High Speed 1000HD for 130 $ and a Rocketfish HD for 50 $. Which one should I use for the cable box and which one should I use for the upscale dvd player, and why?

Thanks guys

  1. If you can, return those overpriced cables.  Buy cables for a tenth of the price elsewhere.

  2. You do not need the monster cables at all! That cable is only preferred if you are sending true 1080p signals (hd or blue ray to a 1080p tv). Upscale dvd and cable boxs mostly deal in 1080i, in that case, any hdmi cable would do, i would not even pay $50 for them. you can get a phillips one at wal-wart for less than $40. The only reason that anyone should ever consider getting that monster cable is if you are using hdmi 1.3 hd or blu ray player, hdmi 1.3 reciever, and hdmi 1.3 1080p tv. I would take that monster cable back if you can! But if you really cant, use the monster for the upconvert, and the rocketfish for the box. Bestbuy rips you off with their cables...

  3. Use the more expensive cable for the DVD player and the cheaper ones for the cable TV. The HD on cable is only at 720 resolution, anyway. So, there will be less noticeable degradation. And, it's certainly better than the cables the cable TV company gives you.

  4. is the rocketfish a hdmi cable? if so, then it doesn't make one bit of difference on which cable you use for either device.  any hdmi cable is going to give you the same picture on your tv.  with monster cables you pay for the name.... hdmi is a digital line, it transfers the picture and sound in binary code, off and on.... your not going to get a worse picture by using a cheaper cable.  and upconverted dvd players just clean up the picture the same way a hd cable box does... you can set a hd cable box to send to the tv at 1080i, saying that the dvd upconverted is better is wrong.  cable boxes can upconvert too.

  5. Try it both ways and see which way you like better. You are the one that needs to be happy.

Cable price to quality of signal, etc is a hottly debated item and should not be fomeented here by others who have a financial reason for saying so.

  6. Good stuff here.

  7. Yeah, cable tends to be compressed somewhat, and an upscaling dvd will enhance the picture, so use the better one for the dvd.

  8. well it depends.  If u like to watch dvd's more than watch TV, use the Monster for your dvd player.  Or you can reverse it if you like to watch TV more.

  9. My advice is to return those overpriced Monster cables. HDMI is a digital interface cable that carries audio and video in one cable, 1's and 0's.Fancy colorful packaging and marketing wont make your equipment operate any better. There are many cables out there that give the same capability for a tenth of what Monster is ripping you off for. Educate yourself and don't get caught up in the hype the salespeople are pushing.
