ignore any hammocks or any accessories you might see in the cage, i just want to know which cage in general is better for five female rats. & i know the 1 inch spacing is a problem, that's why i have chicken wire...

  1. Ferret Nation! I've known so many people who have this cage and love it. You can't use litter in it though, you'd need to use fleece bedding. Also, the bar spacing is a bit wide (on both cages actually) so you might need to wrap it in coated hardware cloth if you have slim girlies or youngsters.

  2. second one. its bigger and better!

  3. both cages would be great. I do know of many rat owners that use and love the ferret nation cages, they do tend to have better access to the levels. there are a lot of rat message boards you can check out for more information. I prefer this one. everyone is help full and will answer all your questions.

  4. I'd say the ferret nation one, but when I looked more closely at the picture it doesn't look like it has a litter pan at all.  You'll definitely need a litter pan, at least 6" deep is what I would recommend as they kick bedding everywhere (as you probably already know if you have 5 rats!).  The Super Pet one looks great, really nothing wrong with it, the only thing I could think of is that it has plastic levels, which can be good or bad depending on your preference.  Plastic levels hold pee and p**p on top so the rats have to walk in it if you don't wash them down every day or two if your rats aren't litter trained.  They are nicer on their feet, though, if they are kept clean.  Personally I prefer wire levels and I use polar fleece cage liners to cover them and do a load of 'rat laundry' every few days.

Have you been to Martin's Cages website?  (http://www.martinscages.com)  They have some great cages for rats that are huge with small bar spacing and they are actually very reasonably priced.

    Good luck with your rats!

  5. Well, if they are just females, the top cage is perfectly fine, because females dont get as big as males, but if you are willing to buy the bottom one, go for it! It is bigger and will give them more room, so why not?

  6. I have the ferret nation, and I LOVE IT. I don't have experience with the other cage, but the ferret nation was worth the money, in my opinion. I have the option of getting more rats if I want them, the doors open up the entire cage, and it's a cinch to clean.
