The Sony HDR-CX7 or HDR-SR12 ?

  1. Depends what you looking for...

    CX7 is lighter, more compact, presumably more durable (virtually no moving parts) and cheaper, easier transferring movie into comp - no need the camera, just pop the card into a card reader.

    SR12 is heavier, more expensive, disc could crash as much as any hard drive in any computer (as unlikely as it is of course, but MIGHT)... BUT... it is better quality camcorder = bigger sensor = better resolution, bigger optical zoom (digital zoom is only advertising trick, optical is the only REAL value worth mentioning:-)). Disc is much bigger than memory stick - fits much much longer movie without need of computer where to dump it, has one more output (S-Video)...

    If I had enough money, I'd go for the SR12. Since I don't I'm happy with $300 miniDV Cannon :-))
