  3. Button only came first once and that was due to circumstances more than his ability to handle a formula one car.

  4. Zips (originally called buttonless fasteners) came later.

Buttons were around for a long time, before that hooks (which can be used instead of buttons and common in traditional chinese clothing)

Button flies came back as a retro thing (something about standing for ten minutes at a urinal fastening your fly was considered cool in the 80s).

Button. A type of button was patented by levis very early on, along with the rivets on the seams, it was all designed to be strong, as jeans were work wear.

  8. Buttons have been around in the West (in one form or another) since Medieval times, and even earlier in China.  (Even our Cro Magnon [and earlier] ancestors had the "technology" for toggle buttons.)  Zippers require actual machinery, which we didn't have until recently.

  9. Buttons, of course! Buttons have been around since forever.  (Well, OK, before buttons they just had strings to tie things together). The zip was invented in the 20th century.

  10. Button
