Which camer should I get - Canon Rebel XSi or Nikon D60?

I am looking at doing my own photography business, however, I am unsure which camera to invest in. This will be my first DSLR, so I don't want anything super complicated, but I also need to have great picture quality. The camera will be used for both business and for taking pictures of my own family at home. Is it worth it to spend the extra money and get the XSi with the liveview, or spend that extra bit on more lenses, etc? Any input or opinions would be really great! Thanks for your help!!!

  1. Canon......its better than nikon d60

  2. Canon!! defin. the best in quality

  3. Rebel

  4. NIKON D60

  5. I've owned 3 Canons and have been very happy with the quality of the pictures and hardware.  Canon is a brand I've come to trust.

  6. The canon. My boyfriend is a wedding photographer and he swears by canon.

  7. Not to knock consumer reports BUT those people are not prof photographers. As a professional, any product that I purchase I research through professional sites such as PopPhoto (my favorite), Shutterbug, and Photolife.

PopPhoto also has a section of Tests & Reviews of numerous Cameras, Lenses, etc. but also if you want opinions then I would also suggest going into the forum

I usually go into the tech forums within Popphoto http://forums.popphoto.com/ and ask other photographers because nothing is better than the opinions of people in the industry and familiar with the equipment and what it should be able to accomplish.

Looking at the comparison between them I would choose the Canon for these reasons:

    1. Image Stabilization - a technology that has Canon above the rest.

    2. Has more AF points (XSI has 7 where as the Nikon only has 3) For me I change focus point regularly, especially when shooting still life, and 3 points would defintely not be enough.

    3. Canon has exposure bracketing which can be very important. Basically this means that you press the shutter once and it takes 3 shots, one at your main exposure that you've already set, one at one setting up and one at one setting down. I have found this important as it can not only make or break a shot but can also save photoshopping after the fact.

I highly recommend posting in the forums though, these people are highly knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

    Hope this helps!

  9. Instead of going over the pro and the con of Live View, I would like to offer you a link to another question.

  10. I'm no expert, but you may want to consider the fact that Canon is offering instant rebates through the end of July on several of their products. The EOS 40D is one of the products. They are giving a $200 instant rebate for this camera. With the rebate, the EOS 40D - which is the next step up from the Xsi, is now a lot closer in price to the Xsi than before the rebate was offered. Check some of the online sites with good reputations to get an idea of the prices for the two like at B&H Photo, Adorama.com, Beach Camera, and of course, Amazon.com. Just a thought....

  11. It's always better to invest in additional lens.  As a photographer that is more important tools than a live view. Now, if you can afford to get both, why not get it. You might use it only 25% of the time, but it does give you that option. Old school photographers don't really care for it. What you want is something that will make you a better photographer.  Like I said, you might not use it but you will always have that option with using a live view. Get the XSi, it's a good camera. You'll eventually end up buying extra stuff for your camera as you need it, no matter which one you chooses.

  12. Pooky is right

  14. i'm doing the same business like you and i've been using both brands, but i found that the canon would be a better choice. but if you have some extra money, spend it for flash, lenses (wide, macro and 300mm) and extension battery. if you always take indoor pictures, then i suggest you should have flash first . . and photogal is right, read and learn from a professional forum . .
