Which camera is better..Nikon S550, Sony DSC-T300, or Sony DSC-W170, or a Canon camera?

I am looking for a camera with 5 x zoom and very good picture quality. The memory sticks i can buy then. thanks :)

Canon SD870IS is the best compact camera available in the market. I am telling this in terms of Image quality, performance,  operation, Price, compatibility, Wide Angle lens(you can get a good landscape picture with these type of lenses. for ex: you can accommodate more number of people in a snap than with the other cameras). Its just awesome. You can see the reviews in many sites about this camera. The only drawback with this camera is lack of viewfinder for that camera but you may not need it at all with the given 3" LCD Screen.

You can get a Sony one if you are a touch screen fan but you have to use memory sticks instead of memory cards which are not compatible with other devices and also they are bit more priced than their competitors. Nikon also has some good cameras in the coolpix series which are sleek and stylish and also produce nice quality snaps but the shutter lag (in other words, wait time between snaps) is a bit annoying.

Coming to your question: there is a better placed camera than Nikon s550. its Nikon S600(only problem is shutter lag) but its better placed than Nikon s550 and its wide angle lens(you will appreciate wide angle lens once you use it).

Sony DSC-T300 is very costly and forget about Sony DSC-W170...its good but I feel its not a worthy competitor...

My personal preference would be a Canon camera and that too...it is 870IS given the number of advantages. It costs around $240. If you feel like this is more...go for SD1100IS which comes for around $200.

If you already have SD or SDHC memory cards the Nikon and Canon are going to be your choice.

If you have some Memory Sticks, then they can only be used with other Sony P&S cameras
