i personally think the canon.

it has a bunch of features.

like the colorswap.

which is that u can swap the color of your picture.

if ur taking a picture of a tree  you can make the tree blue and the sky green.

I'm a Nikon user, but for a point-and-shoot it is hard to beat the Canon Powershot.

They are very close in terms of functions.  P50 has a 28-102mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens and A590 IS has a 35-140mm zoom lens.

I usually want a long zoom, so I would pick Canon A590 IS.
