Question:

Which camera should I get? The Olympus or the Nikon?

Which one?

Either the Nikon Coolpix s52, or the Olympus 850 SW (the Olympus actually might be the 790 SW, I forgot to write it down in the store)?

The Nikon is $249 and comes with a three-year warranty.

The Olympus is $299 and comes with a one-year warranty.

The Nikon has image stabilization, face detection, red-eye reduction, and a few more nice features.

The Olympus has image stabilization, face detection, and is shockproof and waterproof.

The Nikon camera looks nicer.

Which camera would you get?

Do you own either of the cameras and have opinions on them?

Help me!

Thanks in advance.

  1. of course the nikon

  2. Nikon

  3. Not to be biased because of prejudice, I made the effort to look the cameras up. I found tested that didn't rate the Olympus very high, but neither was the Nikon.

And then there is the question of using special and much more expensive memory, I'd always go for the use of SD or CF memory if possible. I try to shun the xD and MemoryStick as far as possible.

But honestly I'd go for another camera altogether as these two cameras are mostly for styling and design. Perhaps a Panasonic FX-33 unless you're dead set on a thin flat camera with the lens in a periscope like this Nikon/Olympus duo.

  4. Both are excellent cameras.

There is a S52c which includes WiFi if that is of interest.

The bottom line is this ... Nikon uses the nearly industry standard SD / SDHC memory cards (used on other devices including PDA's and some MP3 players)  .... Olympus uses a non-standard xD card used by only one other camera line ... Fujifilm (although some Fujifilm cameras can also use SD cards)

  5. i prefer Nikon.

  6. I prefer Nikon as my choice of equipment over the others... :)
