  2. The Nikon P80 is a newer model than the SP-560, a better comparison would be between the P80 and SP-570 UZ which is the current model from Olympus.  The Olympus 570Z has a slightly larger Zoom range and a built in accessory shoe for an external flash, something that neither the Nikon P80 or Olympus SP-560 has.  This can be very useful in the future because it gives you options to increase the flash capability if you need to.  The Olympus cameras use standard "AA" batteries (rechargeable NiMH or better recommended but you can use alkaline in a pinch) where the Nikon uses a proprietary Li-Ion type that means you cannot use the camera if it runs down and you don't have a spare. And replacement Li-Ion batteries are expensive.

On the other hand the Olympus uses the less common xD type memory cards whereas the Nikon uses the more popular SD/SDHC cards which will be less expensive to purchase.

Another difference is that the Olympus camera allows recording in RAW mode, which is a "lossless" format used for advanced processing of images (most professionals shoot in RAW) but the Nikon does not have this mode.

A good place to check out and compare all of these cameras is Steve's Digicams, check out the section called Steve's Conclusion for each camera to get a quick summary of his findings.

HTH, Email if you have specific questions.

  3. Compare the two on www.cnet.com and read the reviews from CNET & users. I think Nikon makes a better camera than Olympus, but for the money, Canon & Sony are better choices. If you want a pocket camera, get a Canon Powershot, 800 - 1100. They are full of features, easy to use, take great pictures ( get the IS) and under $200.

  4. nikon...nikon is easier to work with..both camera wise and software wise

  5. Nikon
