I am looking to get a 2003+ for around 7-9k. less then 75k miles for that price. I deliver pizzas and commute 40 miles round trip in traffic to college 5 days a week so it must last a long time so probably 25-30k a year, I was looking for a civic but they are so expensive.

  1. The civic is pretty expensive car because its is nice car you can depend on.

This absolutely does not mean all other cars are bad. In fact I don't drive a Civic either. Given your driving pattern, go look for a Hyundai Accent. A Pontiac Grand Am is equally good. A Nissan Sentra does loose value but is good for at least 2 years.

If you want to keep the car for 4 years, you will have to buy an Import. The domestic cars are good through say 150K mark. Anything after that is debatable.

Whatever you buy, be good to the car and do all the proper maintenance.

  2. Civic's are overpriced and overrated, as with most Honda's, you are right to look elsewhere.

Nissan Altima's lose their value badly, so you can get them pretty cheap used. Same with Pontiac Grand Prix and Grand Am, but all of those are pretty good cars for the money, and all will last a long time with proper maintenance.
