Question:

Which car seat for my daughter?

My daughter is a small 11-month old at 19 lbs. I am beginning to look at carseats, since she will soon outgrow her Graco Snugride. I was looking at getting a convertible one, because the thought of having to buy only one more carseat sounds appealing to me. But now I am seeing all these opinions that say not to get these types. I need to hear from some parents to help me figure out which to buy! Is the Britax really worth it? I was hoping to spend under $200, but I really do want her to be as safe as possible.

  1. My granddaughter has this one:

And I highly reccomend it. I love the Graco Brand and this carseat is really safe. It's a good investment.

    Good luck!

  2. contact your local fire department or ambulance service for the best answer.

  3. evenflo

  4. Yes, the Britax REALLY is worth it. It is THAT much safer than the others. Lots more padding and foam to prevent injury to the baby in the event of a crash.

  5. Covertable carseats are a good investment.  They go rearfacing much longer than infant carseats and are still safe then you can use them forward facing too once baby is atleast a year old.  Since your daughter is 11 months old and 19 lbs chances are she will be 20 lbs in a month so you can forward face her if you want when she is 12 months old (if she is 20 lbs) or you can still do rearfacing and the convertable carseats give you that option.  Or you can go with a booster seat that has a harness for 20-40 lbs then you use it as a booster from 40-80 lbs.

  6. I would wholeheartedly recommend a convertible carseat.  While the American Academy of Pediatrics states that infants can ride forward facing at 12 mo and 20 lbs, they recommend that they stay rearfacing up to the limits that the seat allows.  Most seats these days rearface up to 33-35lbs which would allow her to benefit from the superior safety of rearfacing until about age 3.  Sounds like forever, I know, but it is significantly safer.  Car seats all have to meet minimum government safety requirements and they do not publish weather or by how much they surpass these minimums so the only benefit to a seat like a Britax is extra padding and ease of use features, like built in lockoffs, easier latch connectors and the capacity to tether rearfacing.  The Britax Marathon is an excellent seat!

www.car-seat.org is an excellent website and the carseat techs there can help you in your decision process.

  7. I bought my daughter a Britax convertible car seat. it was about 240$ but well worth it. She hated her older graco car seat -she always cried. But her new one she loves. It was one of the top rating for safety.

  8. I loved both the Britax Marathon and the Ricaro seat. We now use a booster.

  10. If you take longer trips, like a couple of hours, we really like our recaro because of the way the head rest is for sleeping.  and its safety ratings.  I think its the young sport model.

We also have an evenflo triumph, which typically gets very high safety ratings, and is more economical.

  11. I like Compass.
