  1. mustang is better

  2. dont buy any car with rust..as neil young sang"rust never sleeps" that was 35 years ago ,,dont people ever learn?  find a car with no rust and dont be a sucker.  buy acar from down south that did not get the road salt.

  3. The Mustang. How many people do you know buy and fix up rivieras? It would be so much easier to work on the mustang because places still get parts for them. Rivieras were not popular cars to fix up. There would also be a whole lot more websites that could take you right to other cars and drivers of the Mustang. And, being a buick, man oh man at the weight, that car wouldn't get ten miles to the gallon, and the 289 is a good engine. "God Bless" and good luck.

  4. They will both need money pumped into them, but the Mustang is probably going to be a more rewarding car because of how nice they look.  I would try out a site like driverside.com to see if you can find some info about the cost to repair this stuff, the site is still beta so they might not have info on the older cars though.

    Good luck!

  5. That depends on what you're buying the car for. Do you plan to restore it then resell it? Or hold onto it? If you're going to hold onto it, will this be just a weekend car or a daily driver?

If it's something you plan on reselling right away, make sure you can get in the Mustang at the right price that will allow you to do the repairs and still leave some room for a profit. Old Mustangs sell faster than old Rivieras. If the 6 is the original engine, leave it in. Buyers wanting an old Mustang will pay more if the car is not modified.

If it's something you're going to hold on to and be a daily driver, choose the Mustang. It's cheaper on gas and parts are readily available.

If it's going to be a weekend car, go with the Riviera and hold onto it. 71 and 72 Rivieras are climbing in price. The boat-tail back end is becoming a much desired car. I've watched their prices steadily increase at the auctions. Parts are a bit harder to find than the Mustang. But they are available. And the more popular those cars become with collectors, the easier it will be to find replacement parts.

You can get into a Riviera for less than most Mustangs. And eventually, they may command the same money with collectors as the 65 Mustang.

So it all comes down to what you want the car for. Decide on that and then go get your car.
