  1. It really depends on whether you want shopping or non-commercial sight seeing.

Although you can do both in both directions, the western cruise, Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya, etc, are probably better for more natural, wilderness-type of adventure.

But if shopping is more your thing, then the Eastern cruises, St.Thomas, Bahamas, etc might be better.

But remember you can still do either one in either direction, so the choice is yours.

  2. IT DEPENDS IF YOU GO EASTERN THEN  YOU ARE MOST LIKELY GOING TO THE BAHAMAS, PUERTO RICO, ST THOMAS AND ST MARTIN.  TWO OF THESE ARE US TERRORITIES WHILE STILL BEING DIFFERENT.  FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU ARRIVE AT NIGHT TO PUERTO RICO DON'T EXPECT TO SEE MUCH.  IN ST THOMAS THERE IS SHOPPING BUT ITS LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE NOTHING REALLY TO BUY BY DIAMONDS.ETC.  IN ST MARTIN ITS TWO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES IN ONE ISLAND AND OF COURSE THE BAHAMAS.

IF YOU DO THE WESTERN IT WILL MOST LIKELY BE JAMAICA, MEXICO, KEY WEST, GRAND CAYMEN DEPENDING ON WHAT TIME OF YEAR YOU GO AND WITH WHAT CRUISE LINES. IN JAMAICA THERE ARE WATERFALLS YOU COULD CLIMB IN MEXICO YOU COULD RENT A JEEP AND DRIVE IT AROUND TOWN (THIS IS REALLY FUN ) OR TAKE A TRIP TO SEE MAYAN RUINS. IN GRAND CAYMAN YOU COULD SWIM WITH THE STINGRAYS.

AFTER DOING BOTH OF THESE TRIPS I WOULD CHOOSE THE WESTERN.  BUT LOOK ALSO INTO THE SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN,  IT LEAVES FROM PUERTO RICO STOPS AT DIFFERENT ISLAND EVERYDAY  AND IT IS ONE OF THE BEST CRUISES IN THE CARIBBEAN

WHAT EVERY YOU DECIDE IS BEST FOR YOU CHOOSE A SHIP THAT HAS THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU, HAVE FUN

  3. I thought that the Eastern islands were more beautiful than the Western. However, if you're on a cruise, you're going to have a blast no matter what. Especially if you book on one of the bigger newer ships.

  4. If you haven't been on a cruise before, you'll probably be happy with either the Eastern or Western Caribbean itineraries because both will be new and exciting destinations.

There are a few differences:  If you're really into shopping for bargains, choose an itinerary that stops in St. Thomas.  If you'd like to see some Mayan ruins, head for a Western Itinerary that goes to Cozumel or the Mexican Riviera.

Choose a ship that is right for you (has the features and amenities you really enjoy) and fits your budget, then decide on your cruise based on the itinerary you prefer.

    Happy Cruising!

  5. My eastern Caribbean cruise was way better than the western one, personally. I felt the islands were more beautiful and the people more friendly. Although I really loved the Grand Caymans on my western Caribbean cruise.

  6. I've traveled to both areas, and I preferred the Eastern region.

In my opinion, the scenery of the Eastern side truly brought out the exoticness of the Caribbean. The beaches were a lot prettier, and since a couple of the ports are U.S. territories, they are a bit more "advanced" when it comes to land activities.

If you prefer a more outdoorsy/historic vacation, I would recommend the Western region. The pace is a little slower compared to its counterpart, and you'd certainly have to be more nature-oriented to appreciate the atmosphere.
