  1. Haiti but i don't recommend you move there

Yes I am aware that Haiti shares island with the DR and is called Hispaniola, however Haiti is still an Island nation in the Caribbean, and out of all he Island nations in the Caribbean it absolutely has the lowest cost of living, as well as it is known as one of the poorest nations earth. There is no need to on a tirade about how everything is so expensive, and get offended by a simple answer.

Does anyone else find it annoying when people write everything in caps, to make their point?

  2. Hispaniola.

  3. Definitely the Dominican Republic!

  4. Try the US Virgin Islands or Jamaica

  5. I agree with EErikaa about Haiti, but I found Cuba was great.

It's best to go on an all incl. vacation.

  6. To all of you as the guy said, the Republic of Haiti and DR are not island. But Haiti, Quisqueya, or Bohio are the indian name of Hispanola. The Spanish changed its name from haiti to hispnola ( which nmeans little spain)when they came and called it like that.

YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG WHEN YOU SAY THAT HAITI IS THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO LIVE. BECAUSE WE IMPORT ALMOST 95%OF OUR PRODUCTS, WE END UP PAYING A HIGHER PRICE THAN THE ONE THAT YOU WOULD HAVE PAID IN THE US, CANADA OR WHEREVER WE BUY THEM FROM.

    I

N CUBA YOU CAN RENT A NIGHT IN A CASA SPECIAL OR A HOTEL FOR $ 50/ NIGHT BUT YOU WON'T GET THIS IN HAITI FOR EXAMPLE 1GB usb IS $20 IN HAITI WHILE 2GB IS $ 30 .THIS IS BECAUSE WE DON'T MAKE THEM AND THE GOVERNMENT  IS NOT CONTROLLING THE MARKTET SO WE PAY A HIGH PRICE FOR EVERYTHING. iCE CREAM, RICE, FOOD, WHATHEVER IT IS.  IT IS NOT BECAUSE A COUNTRY IS POOR THAT THE STANDARD OF LIVING IS CHEAP. WHATEVER YOU PAY $5 IN THE US WILL HAVE A MINIMUM VALUE OF $ 10 IN HAITI. IN FACT, IN THE US IF YOU HAVE $5 YOU CAN PAY A BUS $3.6 DEPENDING WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND BUY SOMETHING ELSE WITH THE REST IN HAITI $5 WON'T BRING YOU ANYWHERE. HOUSES IS EVEN WORSE BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE BUYING LAND YOU PAY THEM IN US.

IN THE PASS, SEVERAL POOR FOREIGNERS  WOULD COME TO HAITI AND GET RICH WITH THEIR CURRENCY BUT NOW PEOPLE ARE SELLING MOST OF THEIR STAFF IN US DOLLAR SO LIFE WILL HIT YOU IN HAITI. PEOPLE GET YOUR FACT STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU TALK. I WOULD SAY CUBA FOR CUBAN CITIZEN AND EVEN FOREIGNER. CHECK TO SEE HOW MUCH EDUCATION AND OTHER STUFF COST THERE. DUDE I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU GET  THE WORLD BANK AND THE IFM CR@P BUT THESE TWO INSTITUTIONS JUST MADE THE PEOPLE BECOME POORER. NO FOOD ISN'T CHEAP IN HAITI. NO!NO!NO!!! WB AND IMF NEVER HELPED THE COUNTRY. THEY JUST s***w THE POEPLE WITH THEIR AGREEMENT BY CLOSING THE GOVERNMENT'S STORES. Especialy the poor

  7. Island living generally isn't cheap....  Everything is imported.... Look even at the cost of stuff in Hawaii.

Also different things, are cheaper or more expensive in each of the different islands.

    For example:

In Trinidad and Tobago energy related stuff is relatively cheap in comparison to surrounding islands because they are swimming in hydrocarbons. (Oil and Gas.) But at the same time food stuffs tends to be the expensive thing there.

In Haiti, utilities are a bit more expensive because of infrequency in deliveries and usage-- in all parts of the country however food isn't as expensive as in some of the other islands in the Caribbean due to Haiti's agreement with the World Bank and IMF to have low or no tariffs on many items.

Some islands also subsidize the price of some items.  In many of the English speaking islands in the Caribbean they have state sponsored dental/health care and in some cases more serious medical services are covered by hospitals in either Canada, Cuba or the USA. But some islands may not have any large general hospital at all for citizens. Just small clinics..

Some islands have a deep water port which is great for handeling bulk items via large ships, but at the same time some islands don't have such facilities and thus must use many shallower (small craft) to ship goods to the country.... Which can run costs up more.

Its all luck of the draw I don't think there's any one island with everything.... *Something* on any of the islands you choose will be expensive.

  8. the dominican republic

  9. haiti cause most live on less than a dollar a day

  10. Cuba.

  11. Haiti and the DR are not technically islands, as they comprise one large island, Hispaniola. They are very cheap countries, but have massive problems. Perhaps Margarita is a good cheap option, together with San Andres. http://www.escapeartist.com/efam/71/Visi...
