I recently picked up an rather old and dirty Haro Bmx, it has been my summer project to pimp it out, i have replaced the things that needed replacing, cleaned and polished it, and painted it pretty colours....it looks sweet.

The only thing i still need is a chain, i have noticed there seems to be a variety of different sizes and i don't know which one i need, my bike has 20" wheels, is that an indicator??

  1. Nope.....it's not an indicator, other than what size wheels you have.  :o)

Any normal  1/8" bike chain will work fine.  Bike chains all use 1/2" links (the length of them), but the come in different widths.  Most single speed bikes like bmx use the 1/8" size.  Some bmx racers use 3/32" for light weight, and that size is used on multi-gear bikes, too.

You have all kinds of choices out there....cheapie brown chains for $5, fancier ones and colors for $8-$20, and some really heavy duty chains if you do a lot of grinds and stalls.  The heavy duty ones are HEAVY but they'll last a long time if you keep them in good condition.  Half-link chains are strong, too, and look really neat.

Anyway, a 1/8" chain of your choice should do ya well.   :o)

  2. If I were you I would take it into the bike shop. They will definetly know what you need
