I think you should have a look at Children Walking Tall

They help street and slum children in India, they are small, have little overheads and try and help the children without taking them away from their families, they provide healthcare, education, nutrician, help protect against child abuse and basically give them a childhood worth remembering...

Go to the charity page on power-of-giving.com. They list MANY different catagories of people to donate to that cover many different areas and your donation goes immediately to the recipient.

Some of my favorites:

Make-A-Wish Foundation: grants wishes to kids with life-threatening illnesses.

Your local Pregnancy Center: provides counseling and abortion alternatives to women in crisis pregnancies.

St. Jude Hospital or your local Children's Hospital

Humane Society or SPCA
