Breda in The Netherlands. Known as "The Pearl of The South" it is full of charm and history. The local authority has recently spend a lot of time and money restoring part of the canal that used to surround and defend the city.

It has a wonderful central square (Grote Markt) which is dominated by the huge tower (toren) of the Great Church (Grote Kerk) where you can sit, drink a beer, have a meal and watch the world go by.

Lots of bars, restaurants and cafes, a lively music scene, R&B, jazz, rock, techno - something for all tastes and yet a ten minute bicycle ride will find you deep in peaceful countryside.

Best of all the people are fun loving and friendly.

We lived there for eight years and miss it every day.

Its got to be Mobile,Alabama. Mobile is only minutes from the gulf coast.The snowbirds come down here every winter to get away from the cold up north. We have some of the finest golf courses in the world where recently golf pro Paula Creamer won. We also have some of the finest seafood restuarants that are second to none.Our mayor,Sam Jones,has a top notch police force second to none.Our night life is awsome and our city reminds you of New Orleans and guess what: This is where Madri Gras originated and our Madri Gras are awsome.We have the Mobile Symphony and have had many famous orchestra conductors.We also have living legends in Mobile.Ever heard of Hammerin Hank Aaron?Getting back to downtown;we have all kinds of clubs you would want to frequent. Also we have a very famous tattoo artist downtown called "Chassity". We have many famous civil war landmarks and you know when your here you are revisting part of your past history,not someone else's. I know that you asked about cities but our state has had two American Idol winners. We also have some beautiful city parks with tennis courts and we hold proffesional tennis matches here. We have the University of South Alabama which has some of the finest professors in the world and teaches some of the finest medicine.We also have many health clubs and spas and a passel of Wal-Marts. You know, you can't live without Wal-Mart.If you visit our city,you will be treated like royalty because southern people are very gracious.I hope if you ever have time,you will visit our city because I really love this place and would not want to live any where else.

Is there any reason to think ANY city is good?

It would have to be Helsinki.  No trash in the streets and very little crime--you can leave a bicycle by the side of the road and no one will take it.
