Which city in Europe does "Old" Montreal remind you of?

Hence, the word Old. I'm talking about the historic part of Montreal.

Nothing special about Montreal you say?!?! Montreal is two cities in one with it's underground city which is the largest underground complex in the world and a indoor city. That has to be special for something.

  1. Montreal is very special, but it doesn't remind me of Europe.

  2. Old Montreal reminds me of no European city, with exception perhaps of City Hall, the Bensecoeur Market and a couple of other buildings.

Most of the architecture of old Montreal is early North American 20th Century and was originally financial offices.  Going down St-Paul and Notre Dame streets is more reminder of similar architecture in Chicago and San Francisco, but with much narrower streets.

  3. Old Quebec reminds me more of Europe.
