  1. Halifax,West yorkshire.

  2. About 15 years ago, I set a history task for one of my scouts.......... a history of Gosport. He wanted to know how to go about it, so I suggested he picked one aspect of the borough.

At the suggestion of his Dad, he picked on the history of Gosport Pubs!

One interesting an indisputable statistic, he unearthed was that there is a population to pub ratio, in Gosport, of 742:1.

    That includes all ages.

The ratio of legal drinkers to pubs is 529:1

    Edit:

The population to pub ratio in Bristol, based on the Yellow Pages, comes to 1479:1.

  3. I believe it is Bristol.

  4. City? Don't know. I remember that when Kendal, Cumbria had a population of 26000 there were 35 pubs. I counted them!

As a student living in Blackburn, Lancashire on the Accrington Road, the guys often bet that they could drink a pint in every pub   on the way into town. I don't recall anyone making it. Most wanted to get to the town centre and 'threw in the hat' on the way!

  5. Dunno bout city, but the town with the highest pub/population ratio is Atherstone in the West Midlands.

If the city is Bristol, then I wouldn't be surprised, I'm at Uni there and there are bazillions!!!

  6. there is a village i know that has a population of 50 and has 1 pub,  which is a  lot for 50 people,  they must all be lushes
